American Indian Studies
American Indian Studies at Arizona State University is an academic program grounded in the experience of American Indian nations, peoples, communities and organization from an American Indian perspective.
Our program emphasizes the latest ideas and research impacting Indigenous communities across the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii. We strive to make American Indian Studies not only important and relevant to Native nations, organizations and peoples, but also to society as a whole.
Faculty members and our curriculum offer students intellectual, ethical, and social development to acquire a comprehensive and practical understanding of U.S. Indian law and policy, colonization and decolonization, and nation building.
American Indian Studies privileges oral history and traditional knowledge while promoting collaborative community-based research methods that transcend disciplinary boundaries. We are setting the agenda for the 21st century.
